Since 1993, this recognition program gives the community an opportunity to nominate individuals, community groups, organizations and businesses for meritorious service in the pursuit of cultural diversity and advocacy of human rights for all.

The awards committee evaluates nominees based on community involvement, initiatives, and humanitarianism. Eligible nominees are people living or working in Virginia Beach or anyone who has contributed to the promotion of human rights to benefit Virginia Beach residents.
